Citizen Science Initiative Expands Climate Monitoring Network

The Community Resilience Group has launched a new citizen science initiative that enables volunteers to contribute environmental observations through a dedicated digital platform. Participants will help monitor biodiversity, seasonal changes and local climate impacts across participating regions.

The project seeks to strengthen collaboration between researchers and local communities while generating valuable long-term datasets. Observations collected by volunteers will complement satellite imagery and professional monitoring stations, providing additional insights into regional environmental change.

Researchers emphasize that public participation not only improves scientific data coverage but also increases awareness of local climate challenges and ecosystem resilience. Educational workshops and training materials will accompany the program throughout the year.

All submitted observations will undergo automated quality assessment followed by expert validation before being integrated into the institute's environmental databases.

The initiative forms part of the ACCRC's long-term strategy to promote open science and transparent environmental research while supporting evidence-based climate adaptation at the community level.

Registration for the first observation campaign is now open, with initial monitoring activities beginning this autumn.
